Struggling with Spotify on iOS - Playback Issues, Offline Mode, and Connectivity Problems

  • mogan james

I’m reaching out because I’ve been facing multiple issues with Spotify on my iPhone, and I’m hoping some of you may have experienced similar problems or know how to resolve them. I’ve been using Spotify IOS for years, and while it has mostly been a smooth experience, lately I’ve encountered several frustrating issues that I can’t seem to fix. Here’s a breakdown of what’s been happening:

    1. Offline Mode Not Working

I rely heavily on offline listening, especially when I’m commuting or traveling where Wi-Fi and mobile data may be limited. Recently, however, I’ve noticed that whenever I switch to offline mode, none of my downloaded playlists or albums will play. The app shows them as downloaded, but it just keeps loading and doesn’t play any songs. I’ve tried the following solutions:

    • Re-downloading the playlists: I’ve removed and re-downloaded several playlists, but the issue persists.
    • Restarting the app: I’ve force-closed and reopened Spotify multiple times, to no avail.
    • Checking the storage: I’ve made sure there’s plenty of storage available on my iPhone, and I’m not even close to hitting my limit.

I’ve even tried logging out and logging back in, but the problem still occurs. Is there a particular setting or option I might be missing that could be causing this issue? It’s incredibly frustrating to not be able to enjoy my music offline when I need it most.

    2. Playback Issues Over Cellular Data

Another issue I’ve encountered is with playback while using mobile data. At times, when I switch to cellular data from Wi-Fi, songs will either buffer indefinitely or not load at all. This is especially annoying when I’m out and about and want to listen to my music without having to connect to a Wi-Fi network every time. I’ve checked the following:

    • Mobile Data Settings: Under Spotify settings, I have enabled mobile data for streaming, but the buffering issue persists.
    • Data Saver Mode: I don’t have Data Saver mode on, so I would expect playback to be smooth on 4G or 5G, but it’s not.

I’m curious if anyone else has had similar issues and how they were resolved. I’ve read that certain regions or network restrictions may affect Spotify’s ability to stream music, but I haven’t found much information specific to iOS devices.

    3. Crashing/Freezing App

Lastly, I’ve been dealing with frequent crashes or freezes. Sometimes when I open the app, it freezes on the loading screen, or if I skip songs too quickly, it crashes entirely. This issue started occurring after the latest iOS update, and I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this after updating their devices as well. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but this hasn’t solved the problem either.

    Steps I’ve Taken So Far:

    • Checked for Updates: I’m on the latest version of both iOS and the Spotify app, so I assume that’s not the issue.
    • Cleared Cache: I’ve cleared Spotify’s cache several times to see if it helps, but that doesn’t seem to change anything.
    • Rebooted Device: I’ve rebooted my iPhone multiple times after every troubleshooting step, but the issues remain.

    Things to Consider:

    • I’m using an iPhone 12 with iOS 16.3 (latest update).
    • I have a Spotify Premium account, and I’ve noticed the issues seem to occur whether I’m on Wi-Fi or mobile data.
    • I’ve tried switching to both Wi-Fi 5GHz and 2.4GHz, but the buffering issues continue.

I’m really hoping that someone on this forum has dealt with these types of problems before and can offer a solution. I’ve been using Spotify IOS for a long time, and these issues are really putting a damper on my experience. If you’ve resolved any of the above problems, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank You in Advance!

Thanks so much for reading through this post. I look forward to hearing any tips or advice you might have. Hopefully, we can get this sorted out!
