Honestly, we gave up on generic options after they kept failing on our edge cases and weird lighting conditions. For custom face recognition we didn't want an off-the-shelf API. Went with data-science-ua.com for a tailored model and the accuracy on our dataset was noticeably better. It was a bit of an investment, but way less painful than trying to force a pre-built tool to do something it wasn't designed for.
