Got hurt on my lunch break and now they're saying it doesn't count

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out if I have a case here or if I'm just wasting my time. I work at a retail store in town and last month I went out to my car during my lunch break to grab something I forgot. On my way back into the store, I slipped on some ice that had formed right at the entrance where they never seem to salt properly. I went down hard and ended up fracturing my wrist. When I reported it, my manager seemed sympathetic, but now the insurance company is telling me they're denying my claim because I was on my lunch break and not actively working when it happened. I've been doing some research and it seems like there's a lot of gray area with these premises cases. I found a Saugerties NY workplace injury attorney online that handles these kinds of situations where the injury happens on the property but off the clock, and I'm thinking about reaching out, but I wanted to see if anyone here has dealt with something similar first. Does being on a break automatically disqualify you even if you're still on their property and the hazard was something they should have taken care of? I'm getting bills from the ER and I really don't want to be stuck paying for this out of pocket when it happened because they couldn't be bothered to salt the walkway. Any insight from people who've been through this would be huge.
