Does anyone actually know what those "American spec" imports are hiding?

I've been looking at a couple of Dodge Chargers that are listed way below market and both ads proudly say "American spec" in the title. I know the whole deal with these is that they're usually salvage titles from auctions in the US that get shipped over and repaired here, but every seller insists theirs is the one that only had minor bumper damage. I went to check one out in Al Quoz and honestly it looked beautiful, drove smooth, and the guy was really friendly, but when I opened the hood something about the welding around the strut tower just didn't sit right with me. I'm no expert but it looked a bit messy. I've been going back and forth on whether to take a chance because the price is so tempting, but a friend told me I should just pay for a proper inspection instead of relying on my untrained eye. I found a place called prepurchasecarinspection.ae that specifically mentions they check chassis alignment and look for flood damage, which is exactly what worries me with these imported cars. Has anyone here actually bought one of these American specs and had it turn out okay, or am I just asking for trouble down the line?

    • American spec” cars are often accident or flood-damaged vehicles from the US that get repaired and resold. Some are fixed well, but chassis repairs (like messy welding around the strut tower) are a serious red flag good that you noticed it.

✔️ If you’re still considering it:

Get a proper pre-purchase inspection (very important)

Run a VIN check to see original auction photos

Ask for a chassis alignment report

      ❌ Walk away if:

      Welding/structure looks off

      Seller is unclear or defensive

    • Interesting discussion—there’s always that mix of curiosity and caution around “American-spec” imports. Many people don’t realize how differences in standards, repairs, or hidden histories can affect long-term value and safety . It’s funny how niche topics connect to creativity too, like custom iron on patches ireland, reflecting identity even in unexpected spaces.
